Mesg command

A command available on most Linux platforms; used to enable or disable write access to a user's console/terminal.

Usage Syntax
mesg [y|n]
The only two options are;
- y - enable write access to your console/terminal
- n - disable write access to your console/terminal
If no option is specified, your console/terminal write access status is displayed
Usage Examples
mesg - display console/terminal write access status
mesg n - disable write access to your console/terminal
Usage Notes
Write access to your console/terminal is normally enabled by default
If no option is specified, your console/terminal write access status is displayed
Disabling write access to your console/terminal prevents receipt of instant messages sent by other users using the wall command
Linux Usage Notes
With most Linux or Unix commands;
- Brief help can be displayed using the option/keyword: -h or --help, for example: chmod --help
- A full command manual can be displayed using the man command followed by the command name, for example: man chmod
- Sometimes 'info' pages are used instead of or to provide more information than man pages; for example: info chmod
- Version information can be display using the option/keyword: -v or --version, for example: chmod --version

[user@f5-device#]$ mesg is y
