A command available on most Cisco platforms; used to enter a lower privilege level for the user account that executes the command.

disable [level]

If used without a level being specified, privilege level 1 is assumed.

Usage Examples
disable - enter user mode (privilege level 1)
disable 8 - enter privilege level 8

Use the show privilege command to display your current privilege level
Use the privilege command to specify commands a user account with a specific privilege level can execute
Use the privilege level command to specify the default privilege level (normally 1) for users connecting via the console, AUX and tty lines, avoiding the use of the enable command altogether. These accounts must actually have the privilege level that you specify.
