Boot command

A command available on most Cisco switch and router platforms; used to specify where to locate boot images, which to use and other boot time parameters.

Cisco 6500 Series - IOS

  • Do not use any forward slashes '/' when specifying filesystem devices.
  • Always specify the filesystem device fully, e.g. sup-bootflash:
  • Never specify bootflash: as a filesystem, it won't work
  • sup-bootflash: is bootflash: in ROMmon mode and thus if you enter the boot system sup-bootflash:xxx command, reboot and monitor console output during the reboot, you'll see the switch report loading bootflash:xxx
